Southern Africa Training of Trainers Workshop from 20 - 30 March 2006, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The first Southern African 'Training of Trainers' workshop under the TIE-ENERGIA project will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, and hosted by ENERGIA South Africa National Focal Point, Centre for Innovation and Development (NovAfrica)

The TIE-ENERGIA project which is working to mainstream gender into energy policy, planning, programmes and projects, and is supported by the European Commission, under the Intelligent Energy - Europe programme 'COOPENER' is holding the Southern Africa Training of Trainers Workshop from 20 - 30 March 2006, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The TIE-ENERGIA project is implemented by ETC Foundation and Eco. Consortium members include KuSiNi and Practical Action - East Africa.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • to create a critical mass of self-confident women and gender-sensitive men who would engage in changing policies, programmes and practices that affect women's energy choices;
  • to increase awareness, knowledge and skills of a selected group of development practitioners - planners, policy makers, project implementers - to integrate gender and energy concerns into sustainable development and poverty reduction programmes;
  • to identify gender gaps in energy-poverty policies and make gender and energy issues visible to a wide audience, thereby supporting national and international
